  • Why choose Emirates Rehab and Homecare LLC physiotherapy?

Our experienced physical therapists are trained to help accelerate recovery.

By offering a range of treatments and personalized attention, we aspire to get our patients moving to enhance their quality of life.

Our program consists of manual therapy and strengthening exercises using modalities.

  • What are the benefits of home visits?

Emirates Rehab and Homecare LLC can provide physiotherapy assessments and treatments in the convenience and comfort of your own home.

We provide this service especially for patients with limited mobility. Once a physiotherapist has visited a client in their home, we will be able to assess any difficulties related to everyday activities.

Further to the home visit, we can advise you on what adaptations are necessary.

  • What happens during the initial assessment?

During your first visit, a specialized doctor will organize a full physical assessment.

Once a medical overview of the patient's history (including medications, tests & procedures related to health) are reviewed, we will then analyze any problems or complaints.

  • How long will each treatment last?

A typical treatment session normally lasts 30 to 60 minutes per visit.

  • How many sessions will I need?

This varies greatly. You may need one visit or months of care.

Every individual program depends on diagnosis, severity of impairments, medical history, etc.

You will be re-evaluated on a regular basis and progress reports (with our recommendations) will be given to your doctor for review.

  • What is a typical physical therapy session?

Treatment programs for every patient are unique and vary depending on symptoms and conditions.

The treatments involve stretching, strengthening, walking practice (if appropriate), Gait training, postural awareness, electrotherapy treatments and education.

There is a vast assortment of exercises designed to correct and improve:

    • Balance & coordination
    • Muscle control
    • Normal movements
    • Muscle imbalances

We can accommodate patients to be seen once a week or daily.

Physical therapists will review your program during treatment and after sessions, to monitor progress.

If you are experiencing pain, it is important to advise the therapist about pain intensity, what causes the irritation and what alleviates the problem.

To get the best results, express how this impacts your daily living activities or functional, physical limitations.

Therapists may perform the following evaluations (below):

    • Palpation – Touching the area around the problem or pain to check for presence of tenderness, swelling, soft tissue integrity, tissue temperance, inflammation, etc
    • Range of Motion (ROM) – Moving joint(s) to check for restrictions related to quality of movement
    • Muscle Testing – Strength and quality review of muscle contraction. Pain and weakness may be noted. Often muscle strength is graded. This is also part of a neurological screening
    • Neurological Screening – Review of how nerves are communicating with muscles and senses (such as touch, pain, vibration, temperature). Reflexes may be assessed as well
    • Special Tests – May be performed to confirm or rule out additional potential problems
    • Posture Assessment – Review of joint positions

Subsequently, physiotherapy goals can be set to improve the condition.

Your plan will be created with input from you, your therapist and doctor.

Treatments can be provided at Emirates Rehab and Homecare LLC or in the comforts of your own home. We are flexible to accommodate your needs.

  • Which techniques are commonly used?
    • Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is a non-invasive pain relief treatment for chronic pain

This safe and effective technique involves a battery operated device to deliver a current across the skin via conducting pads.

Two natural processes in the body are excited.

The tingling sensation of TENS manipulates signals received by the brain. This may inhibit and reduce pain.

TENS may also stimulate production of the body's own natural pain killing substances called endorphins and enkephalins.

    • Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) may be used by physiotherapists to strengthen very weak muscle groups

In some cases (such as a nerve injury) it can also be used maintain muscle strength and speed up recovery of the affected nerve.

Other benefits include reduction of swelling, pain relief and wound repair.

FES is similar to TENS as they both apply electrical energy via conducting pads.

Excitation stimulates nerves supplying the muscle group (or area to be treated).

In-turn, this creates an excitation or contraction in the muscle tissue.

    • Hot compress to soothe muscle ache
  • I have a disc problem that was diagnosed by MRI. Can I be helped by physiotherapy?

Radiology results are valuable but it is more important to treat clinical signs and symptoms of the patient.

Some patients may have back pain while others may have leg pain from nerve irritation. Some exhibit both.

Every patient’s condition must be treated individually. Physiotherapy is often very helpful for patients with disc problems.

  • I suffer from headaches. Can professionals at Emirates Rehab and Homecare LLC help me?

Cervicogenic (neck headaches) can mimic migraines or trigger migraines in migraine sufferers. This can develop into a condition resulting in chronic daily headaches.

Treating the neck, upper back and shoulders can relieve neck headaches (mimicking or triggering the migraines) and reduce frequency.

Many headaches also have a component related to the neck.

These types of headaches are called cervicogenic headaches.

Cervicogenic headaches appear with mechanical dysfunction of the top 2 joints in the neck.

Manual therapists have tools to assess and treat various factors contributing to these headaches.

This treatment can help decrease the intensity and frequency of headaches.
